Understanding Confidence Scores
Every transcription includes an AI-generated confidence score that indicates how certain our system is about the results. This score is based on multiple factors including document clarity, handwriting legibility, and language recognition.
85-100%
Results are highly reliable. The AI is confident in most characters and words. Minor manual review may still be beneficial.
65-84%
Results are generally good but some sections may need review. Document may have legibility issues or unusual handwriting.
Below 65%
Results should be reviewed carefully. Document may have significant issues. Consider requesting a refund or re-processing.
Factors Affecting Confidence
- Document clarity: Faded ink, stains, and damage reduce confidence
- Handwriting style: Unusual or highly stylized scripts are more challenging
- Image quality: Low-resolution scans limit what the AI can detect
- Language/Script: Some languages and scripts have been tested more extensively
Refund & Re-Process Policy
Automatic Refunds for Failed Processing
If our system cannot process your image at all (due to corruption, unsupported format, or system errors), you automatically receive a full credit refund for that image.
Free Re-Processing
If you receive results with below 65% confidence, you can request free re-processing. Our system may use different parameters or models to achieve better results. Limit: One free re-process per image
Credit Refund for Unusable Results
For results below 50% confidence where re-processing doesn't help, you may request a credit refund. Contact support with your upload details.
Not Covered
We cannot refund credits for documents where the original source material is genuinely illegible (e.g., severely damaged, missing sections, completely faded ink). In these cases, no transcription service can provide accurate results. We recommend testing with a sample image before processing large batches of challenging documents.
How to Get the Best Results
Document Preparation
- High resolution: Scan at 300+ DPI (600 DPI for faded documents)
- Good lighting: Avoid shadows and ensure even illumination
- Flat scanning: Minimize curves and wrinkles
- Full page: Include margins for context
- Color vs grayscale: Color often works better for stained documents
Processing Tips
- Test first: Try a few samples before large batches
- Choose Full Extraction: Structured data helps verify accuracy
- Use Priority: More attention for important documents
- Review results: Always verify critical genealogical data
- Submit corrections: Help improve future accuracy
